in holiness” (Ex 15:11; cf. Is 45:15). Holiness is God’s innermost nature, embracing power, eternity and glory (Rev 4:8). The angels sing “Holy, holy, holy” to the God of transcendent majesty (Is 6:3; cf. Rev 4:8). Jesus calls God “Holy Father” (Jn 17:11), and God’s name is to be “hallowed” (Mt 6:9; cf. Ex 20:7; Ps 97:12; 103:1; Ezek 36:22; 43:7). In Rev 6:10 God is invoked as “Sovereign Lord, holy and true” (NIV; cf. 16:5–7). The New Testament also ascribes holiness to Jesus, the Messiah of Israel
